2013 COMPTCHE RIDGE, PINOT NOIR

The wines from Comptche Ridge are almost completely earthbound, and the initial aromatics are somewhat hard to discern. On aeration, hints of Chinese five-spice and orange blossom begin to emerge, slowly deepening with time in the glass. The palate offers a rich brew of tart red fruit flavors tangling with underlying notes of rooibos tea and fennel seed. Integrated acids and planed tannins give the wine a broad, even backpalate. We’d suggest aging the wine a minimum of three years.

2014 COMPTCHE RIDGE, PINOT NOIR

Antonio Galloni: The 2014 Pinot Noir Comptche Ridge Vineyard is the most expressive of these wines, as it so often is. Freshly cut rose petals, mint, white pepper and sweet red berries are all woven together in a delicate, exquisite wine graced with superb finesse. The 2014 literally floats on the palate, with lovely aromatic presence and fabulous balance. The clonal mix is two-thirds Swan and one-third Pommard.

2015 COMPTCHE RIDGE, PINOT NOIR

The 2015 Comptche Ridge has unusually bright and floral aromatics that rise immediately out of the glass. Once opened fully, classic earthy, loamy aromatics appear, redolent of cool forest duff and warm soil. The entry is sappy and intense, leading to a distinctly pure mid-palate, one that remains grounded but equally structured by pliant, woody tannin. The wine’s juicy, mineral-veined lingers pleasantly. Drink 2021-2028.
